Well, what can I say? It has been a long day >.>
For those of you who know, start laughing. As I am really working in a cafe.

There are no plates broken, no fires to be fought and I did not scald myself so I guess today is a good day >.> Partially.
I am very comfortable with retail sales as I am 'trained' in that area. my wine sales was fantastic It is also pretty easy for me to deal with customers as I understand their human psychology and I am almost always able to sell whatever I am promoting if I want to. Besides that, I just need to stand, smile and look pretty. Sure that are difficult customers in retail but I am confident of turning a black product to white so I have no problem handling them. besides Chinese speaking customers
However, F&B seems to be even more challenging than I expected T_T
I remember a time whereby F&B was in a list of jobs that I refused to touch and guess what; I am working in a cafe... The good thing is that the cafe is like some 5 minutes walk away from my house so I guess I save a lot on transport. The timings are rather flexible and they agreed that they will not touch my Fridays and Sundays(: My night life would probably change as I am serving instead of being served. I am absolutely not used to the kind of 'service' required in F&B as for starters, I apparently put my hands in my pockets. A lot. In retail, god cares where you place your hands but for F&B, I have to learn to get it out of my pocket and 'act demurely'
I am not used to taking orders as my orders are always taken so learning how to write orders on the note pad quickly with some five customers ordering at the same time is really new and guess what happens if I forget to bring my note pad along with me while clearing the table...I can haz fantastik memory
Its like the game 'Diner Dash' just that this time round , I am playing Flo>.<
It was pretty hectic today but it is apparently considered a 'poor day' as the world cup is going on. I am so excited to see what 'busy/ full' means. Yayness.

Its my first day but I got a hang of what kind of customers to expect and I even met a few jokers...
Joker A.
'Excuse me. Do you have anything that is low in fat, cholesterol, non alcoholic, healthy or something light?'
Problem. Almost everything on the menu is either fried, cakes, ice cream or really sinful chocolate deserts. That guy was just throwing his weight around as he is 'rich' and is treating a few workers so he decided to mock me and test my knowledge of the menu as he knows that I am new. I was really pissed as he the type of guy I loath that I almost blurted out: Water.
Yessu. Water will solve all your problems. It is low in fat, cholesterol, non alcoholic, healthy and light. The best part of water, is that it is free! Just that it is self service.
Then after flipping through the menu again, he decided to ask: I shall go with a beer. So do you have any beer that is low is cholesterol?
-.- Dude. Seriously? A beer that is low in cholesterol? Maybe you could try water mixed with beer. That should lower the cholesterol.
Joker B.
A while back, one of my friend who works in F&B was telling me how he met this customer who used his hand to make writing gesture in the air. Common sense would tell you that the customer was asking for the bill. But apparently, that customer asked for... Water. I laughed my head off when he told me that story. Well, today's encounter was a little more epic than his.
A customer did the same writing gesture in the air and I took the bill for her. Guess what she wanted?
More mushroom sauce...
Good job.
Its a really tiring day for me but I can consider it a successful day one as I am still in one piece. So lets look forward to a better tomorrow T_T
