I have so many things to say about my NY trip!!! But first and foremost, ただいま! I learnt and met many interesting people there and had a blast. Because I have so many things to say, this shall be a really really looooooooong post(:Perhaps not so long because I am feeling lazy. I shall upload my NY pictures soon if i feel like it.My leg is worse, Haji got his voice back, Noru is MIA-ing with Wolfram, Riko is as cute as ever and besides my school celebrating Earth-day and Fiona's B-day, everything is either back to normal (besides me jet-lagging) or they just simply stayed the same.
Airport day
Not really an emotional parting at the airport besides some of the choir girls sobbing like crazy. Other than that, I am really happy that Jessica and Fiona came down to send me off(:
Airplane day
I tried to prevent myself from getting jet-lag. So it was movie watching marathon time(: I started off with 'I AM LEGEND' Thinking that it is some stupid mystery show that will not have a good ending. And yeah the ending was not all sparkles and jewels, but it SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME!!! Especially when the poor dog ran into some dark place and refused to come out. The worse part of it is that the dog died:( Moving on to my next show, 'NATIONAL TREASURE' I feel asleep after 5 mins of watching it. It is not that boring but i was tired enough to make the show boring in my mind and i am off to lala land. Well then it was transition time at Frankfurt and the next show was Enchanted and the rest I am too lazy to elaborate on.
Day 1
19.4.2008
ARRIVAL AT NY!!!!! It seemed like a dream to the sec 4s cause we didn't think that we could really make it that far so yup, we were happy(: After settling down in our coach, we were wizzed off to the Metropoliant Museum (It should be spelled this way. I think) I think that the museum was beautiful. It was so big that i got so tired from walking. I would have had more energy in appreciating the art work if not for the jet-lag that caught up to me and my group. Everyone was sleep walking and dying. I slept walked after i visited the Music section. The olden instruments were simply amazing! Beside a few really beautiful portraits I saw, I can't remember anything else.
Dinner was Ray's pizza. It was 8 slices giganmongous pizza that is 3 times bigger than the large pizza sold here and it cost US23+ I think that we should have ordered the medium pizza instead of the large one... Oh Well(:
Day 2
20.4.2008
Stretches in the morning make me feel like some old lady a i can hear my bones cracking. I did not really sleep well the night before as the room was so hot! Our 'air-con' not heater blew out hot air instead of cold air and yup it was hot during the night. Next on the list was the Guggenhien museum (I have no ideal if it is spelt this way) Well the museum was really interesting in the beginning with its realistic 'sculpture' like things and stuff like that. BUT I started sleep walking after the artist used gun powder to 'paint' his pictures. It seems interesting for the first few lot of brown paper smacked with brown powder explosions but after more brown paper smacked with brown power explosion for like more than 20 mins, I began to sleep walk.
Next was rehearsal then came the choir workshop. It was quite redundant a Ms Tham has already told us about all that stuff just that we were not putting it into practise. The festival select choir was so much fun! As you got to meet a lot of different people. I love all the songs and had so much fun.
In the evening, we went up to rockerfella to see the NY city view at night. It was a very unique experience as the wind was blowing like mad and my hand was shaking so taking photos was a dread. So, the lazy me adjusted my ISO to the max of 1600 and had fun shooting while shivering. Love my camera(:
Sectionals at night and i rehearsed for the festival select thing やだやだ。
Day 3
21.4.2008
Breakfast with Ms Tan and we got 'lost' because we made the wrong turn(: Then something dramatic happened that made me reflect of my leadership position. Shall not elaborate as it was kind of sad. On the bright side, it was a learning experience for me and i am glad that it happened. FESTIVAL SELECT CHOIR REHEARSAL!!! Once again, the rehearsal was a blast and it was impossible not to have fun.
After which, we went to some beautiful church to have to exchange programme hearing the other school sing some songs and we performed our pieces for them. We rushed through our entire performance but oh well. Then came THE CRUISE!!!! All of us came in pants and jeans while the girls from the other school came in like dresses... They wore high heels and had make up on them. So we really stood out like some sore thumb. I think that my outfit can be considered classy if i wore pants instead of jeans but oh well I still look nice(: Thanks George! Then I met Aaron and the cellist whose name i have forgotten in the bus and had a fun time talking to them(: We exchanged information about our country and we cleared the mistake that they had about Singapore.
a) Singapore is a country, not part of China or Indonesia.
b) Singaporeans speak English as our main language and it is impeccable.
c) You can get around our island within 4 hours and we are multi-racial.
While i learnt that California has a desert, many hills and valleys, has hardly any tall buildings and no, they don't go surfing every week. The cruise was kind of boring as the choir has no intention of socialising and most of them were either sea sick or sleeping or just do not want to do anything fun like dancing. The seniors had fun dancing/bouncing though(: I saw the stature of Liberty and it looks nice(: The wind almost froze me to death because it was so cold.
Day 4
22.4.2008
COMPETITION DAY!!!
Nothing really much to describe about the competition as we did not do as well a i expected. Carnegie hall was so beautiful(: It really matches our gold dresses very well. We were awarded a gold so i guess the judges were really kind.
The concert for the FESTIVAL SELECT CHOIR WAS SO SO SO SO FUN!!!! 本と楽しい方です!!! It was just exhilarating (to claris: this word means exciting) standing up on the stage!!! I love all the song we sang and just had such a good time up there. The feeling up there is so much better than morning singspiration as it was about full house in the hall. So it is like twice the school population of 2800 pairs of eyes watching you and giving you their fullest attention. It is something that will be stuck in my memory forever. Besides, the eight of us were so outstanding because the other school's choir uniforms' colour is black so we were like golden things in the midst of black. I really treasure the feeling cause i sang at Carnegie hall... TWICE(:(:(:
Then later came the debrief and i saw Aaron and Julia for the last time. As they left in the morning and i did not get a chance to say goodbye. The stupid me did not take any pictures nor leave any contacts.... Oh well just treasure the hugs that I got from them as their parting gift. That should be enough to keep me happy(:
Day 5
23.4.2008
The morning was kind of chaotic and every room was in a mad rush to do some last minute packing. Then we left for a tour to harlem which beside taking photos, I did not enjoy it that much. Then it was shopping with beloved Carolyn(: I had a exciting time walking to 5th avenue and shopping for chocolates(: Once again stupid me did not buy enough chocolates and i am so regretting it right now... I had a lovely experience in the sub way and the new yorkers were really kind to two lost sheeps carrying heaps of shopping bags. I also saw NY in a different light as this was the first time i experience NY with so many people. Then it was time to head home.
I am kind of lazy to talk about what happened in the air plane so i shall end here. I am really sad that i did not get their contacts before they left but oh well we are still connected by the sky so i shall just keep looking up.(:
